At Harvest Park PTA is the NUMBER ONE voice for parent involvement. The PTA makes a difference at HPMS and your participation can also make changes in your school, as well as be a role model to your children and your community!
As you are aware, the economic crisis has significantly impacted our schools and our children over the past two years, necessitating cuts of over $12 million dollars from our District budget. These cuts have resulted in higher student to adult ratio in classrooms, less counseling and intervention programs, a decrease in custodial, library, and technology services, and the elimination of vice principals at our school sites. The 2010-2011 school year proves to be even a bigger challenge. After the Governor released his proposal, our District was charged with eliminating $6.9 million more dollars in addition to what has already been cut and it is predicted that this number will grow in the coming months. We will be forced to eliminate programs that we have valued as a community, resulting in more layoffs of teachers, classified staff, and administrators. Under these circumstances, it will be impossible to offer students, parents and community the programs that they hold dear and have come to expect from Pleasanton schools.
The proposed funding cuts will have a big impact on our District. Our children deserve more than this and we cannot compromise their education. We are working hard as a District to identify possible cuts in our program, which ultimately will be decided upon by our Board of Trustees. The list of possible cuts Vice Principal reductions, loss of counseling services, elimination of SST, elimination of mandatory study hall, elimination of Barton reading program, elimination of WEB, and elimination of off-site counseling referrals. Pleasanton Unified prides itself on having safe and sane schools that provide a high quality education. I am reaching out to you, the Harvest Park community, to ask for your support.
